Joyful Noise is not a TV show based on the Queen Latifah film of the same title, although it’s not far from it. This outstanding new Sunday morning BET gospel hour is replacing the ever-loved Bobby Jones Gospel show after 35 successful years on television.
This new show will surely grab audiences and grow fans quickly. Not only is it hosted by the enigmatic award-winning Tye Tribbett, one of the most well-known names in gospel music, it is offering a line up of the biggest gospel stars and groups for an hour of powerful praise every Sunday. Featuring interviews and comedy from Willie Moore Jr., personal testimonies sent in from fans, and short sermon-snippets from a different preacher each week, the show aims to capture and ignite a younger audience, turning them on to the amazing and energetic acts that bring to life all that is good.
JN showcases some of the world’s outstanding gospel music as well, inviting Nigerian minister, Uche Agu, and his blend of traditional African sounds with gospel to join in the premiere episode. Agu is already renowned in South Africa, and now he can claim the fame as the first Nigerian gospel artist to appear on American television.
As the show’s host, Tribbett is stoked to be a main influencer on such a ground-breaking platform for the music he loves so much. Bringing together some of the most amazing musical performances from neighborhood churches around America, viewers will be delighted when they see their local house of worship starring on the small screen. The well-respected Tribbett shared his excitement for this new show in an interview with The Christian Post, “My thing was to really make Jesus, gospel and music as cool and relevant as it really is. I want to bring that back in a way that will bring family together, not just youth,” the animated host proclaimed. “I want to bring families together so they will be inspired because we’re going to face some dark days.”
The series debuted it’s first season on October 9, 2016, and while BET has not released any ratings or viewership statistics to date, the show seems to have been well received with open arms. They also have not talked about the future of the show yet, whether it will be renewed or cancelled.
Many of the reviews online have praised the excellent format of the show, the fresh talent it pulls together, and the short segments that are easily absorbed by any demographic. It is an enjoyable hour, full of hope, love, and worship that generations of family members are sure to share in the joy with each and every Sunday.
